Overview of FUTURESCHOOLS@SINGAPORE Visit
FutureSchools@Singapore aims to equip our pupils holistically with essential skills to be effective learners and global citizens of the digital workplace of the future. On a school-wide scale, each FutureSchool will experiment with various innovative Information Communications Technology / Interactive Digital Media (ICT/IDM)-enabled pedagogical approaches to support learning and teaching. Innovative technology solutions include elements such as interactive 3D learning environment, the use of avatars, interactive field trips, e-problem-based learning environment and virtual campuses. Visitors at the FutureSchools will be able to gain more insights into each FutureSchool’s concept and innovations.
 
Beacon Primary School
Project Focus: Diverse Digital Learning Spaces (i.e. 3D virtual learning environment) and Holistic Development
Beacon Primary leverages technologies for engaged learning and to provide stimulating learning experiences for students. The school believes that to meet future challenges, learners must extend their learning beyond knowledge, skills and values to develop the ability to envision for the future and contribute to make a difference. The visit would offer delegates insights into the school’s approach to learning and teaching, and design of technology-enabled physical spaces, key features of its programmes, namely, the Media and Arts, Investigative and Wellness Channels as well as “BeaconWorld” which is a 3D immersive virtual world being developed to offer diverse online learning opportunities.
 
Canberra Primary School
Project Focus: Empowering the Future Today - Creators in the 21st Century and Beyond
Canberra Primary School's proposed six-year Canberra Experience comprises three key programmes - Discoverer, Global Learner and Attuned Learner. Each key programme will be designed to deliver the national curriculum and 21st century skills through collaborative knowledge building-based pedagogies and assessment.
 
Crescent Girls' School
Project Focus: Student-Centric Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Integrated Curriculum
Crescent Girls’ School is one of the first FutureSchools@Singapore. With the launch of 1 to 1 mobile learning since 2004 and the use of the Tablet PCs, learning has indeed become more dynamic and interesting. Supported by state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure, their pupils use a wide range of Interactive and Digital Media (IDM) content to enrich their learning experiences. A school tour will be included to see students engaged in learning through technology in different subjects. Delegates will be able to understand the philosophy in the designs of the different learning spaces and the latest innovative solutions developed by the school and its partners.
 
Hwa Chong Institution
Project Focus : Self-Directed and Independent Learners in a borderless world
FutureSchools@HCI integrates ICT with pedagogy to develop students to become tomorrow’s leaders in their areas of passion. They are nurtured to be independent learners who will be socially and culturally adept. A multitude of strategies are employed, including a mentoring and boarding programme and the use of technology in facilitating self-directed, collaborative and passion-driven learning. A concerted effort is also made in creating learning opportunities beyond the school’s physical campus at Bukit Timah, so that learning transcends boundaries between subjects, classrooms, schools, countries and cultures.
 
Jurong Secondary School
Project Focus : e-Problem-Based Learning, Media Literacy, Community-based learning, Assessment of 21st Century skills
In Jurong Secondary School, Problem Based Learning-Authentic Learning (PBL-AL) is a key distinguishing feature of the school’s learning and teaching framework. Pupils engage actively in ill-structured, real life problems, helping them to acquire various life skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. The school leverages on technology and the development of a suite of e-PBL Tools to enhance learning at each stage of the PBL cycle.
