School Visit (Morning Session)
Beacon Primary School
Beacon Primary School (BCPS) focuses on nurturing and inspiring students to the best of their potential through innovative teaching approaches, technologies and research in an engaging environment. In support of this vision, the school develops students in the cognitive, aesthetic, physical, social and moral domains through the three curriculum innovations.
  • Media Arts Channel
This channel nurtures creativity through the development of language skills and appreciation of the aesthetics. It creates cultural awareness about the world and a sense of belonging to the community among the students.
  • Investigative Channel
In this channel, students’ curiosity and inquiry in Mathematics and Science are fostered using tools such as digital modelling and games to develop problem-solving abilities.
  • Wellness Channel
Through this channel, students develop skills and dispositions to manage their learning, emotional development, healthy living, and physical well-being. This programme also provides students with opportunities to be self-directed learners.

The visit will take participants through the applications of Beacon World which is an interactive 3D Virtual Learning Environment with a variety of virtual learning tools and spaces including: more ...

Canberra Primary School
Canberra Primary School (CPS) recognises the importance of developing 21st century competencies such as self-directed learning and collaborative learning in the students. As such the school has developed a successful ICT-based curriculum and cultivated effective management practices to foster a strong culture of ICT experimentation and innovation among teachers. This is evident in the emergence of teacher interest groups that delve into mobile learning, podcasting and the use of interactive whiteboards.

Another CPS’s distinctive characteristic of the school curriculum and pedagogy is play. CPS acknowledges the importance of play in the development of a child’s self-awareness, intellectual capacity and social skills, and has created an engaging learning experience for students through the use of immersive gaming environments.

The visit will take participants through the applications of Canberra Live! which is an integrated virtual learning environment incorporating immersive virtual reality gaming, multi-modal digital media and mobile learning. more ...

Crescent Girls' School
Crescent Girls' School (CGS) possesses a strong culture of experimentation and sharing, with almost every member of her staff participating in action research related to the use of ICT in education. Teachers continually explore new pedagogies in considering how best to harness technology to enhance the learning process for their students. Teachers are empowered to build their own ICT capacity through various modes of professional development and active experimentation. With its tradition of strong school leadership and high level of teacher professionalism, CGS has propelled itself into the future - a trailblazer indeed!

CGS also leverages ICT to drive curriculum innovation in preparing its students to become "world-ready" youths. Distinctive features of the school's integrated curriculum include the integration of subject disciplines, use of learner-centric teaching approaches, deployment of multiple assessment modes and the infusion of 21st century competencies. Students are encouraged to be independent learners through collaboration and taking the initiative in both asking questions and seeking answers for themselves.

Hwa Chong Institution
Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) has established a culture of using new technologies for teaching and learning. Teachers work in collaborative teams led by "technology champions" who mentor and inspire. Together with the school leaders, they exemplify the school's motto - 自强不息(striving for continual improvement).

Teachers are also constantly re-looking and re-thinking how things can be done differently to enhance the quality of education. They engage in careful experimentation with new technologies and pedagogies to engage students and pique their interest in learning. Senior management adopts a "bottom-up initiative, top-down support" leadership style, actively advancing ICT niche areas and developing critical support to achieve the school's vision. Indeed, HCI has adopted a whole-school approach in the use of ICT to enhance educational quality. At the core of Hwa Chong Institution’s (HCI) FutureSchool Programme is a borderless learning environment. To develop self-directed and independent learners, subjects are integrated seamlessly into an interdisciplinary curriculum. The school aims to equip students with the skills and insights they need to thrive in the new global economy.

The visit will take participants through the applications of Hwa Chong Nexus (HCnX) which is a virtual campus designed to facilitate independent learning and collaborative explorations. more ...

Jurong Secondary School
Jurong Secondary School (JSS) has established strong structures in the professional development of teachers to support the school's culture of ICT innovation. There is a high level of teacher discourse as teachers reflect upon their learning and teaching practices. Strong school leadership has put in place processes that further encourage teachers to use ICT innovatively. Truly, even as JSS teachers deepen their competencies, and transform their teaching to make lessons come alive for their students, JSS students have been empowered to shape and direct their own learning.

To prepare students for the future, JSS extends learning beyond the school, and leverages ICT to provide students with an authentic and relevant learning experience.

In support of this vision, curriculum innovation at JSS focuses on three key programmes:
  • e-Problem-Based Learning (ePBL)
In this curriculum innovation, customised ICT tools co-developed with industry partners are used to support school-wide implementation of the PBL approach. ePBL challenges students to work cooperatively in groups to find solutions to authentic, real-life problems.
  • Media Literacy
The Media Literacy curriculum seeks to empower students to analyse media messages critically, and provides them with opportunities to express their thoughts and ideas through various media creations. This programme also focuses on developing students’ oral, written and visual literacies through the use of communicative technologies. It enables students to communicate and collaborate effectively with their peers and the wider community.
  • Community-based Authentic Learning
Community-based Authentic Learning situates learning in the context of the society as students construct knowledge and meaning through their interaction with others. Through this programme, students tap on the specialised knowledge of expert mentors through an integrated learning network to help them solve local problems.
The visit will take participants through the applications of VLTrek which is a holistic learning environment that supports learning and teaching in the 21st Century, and the school’s brand of PBL consisting of: more ...

School of Science and Technology
School of Science and Technology (SST) aims to provide a meaningful learning experience for students. SST's rich ICT-enabled environment opens a world of learning opportunities for her students from networking platforms to collaborative online tools.

SST believes in and strongly encourages professional development for all teachers. They participate in the design of curriculum innovations with NIE researchers, and develop themselves as reflective practitioners in the use of ICT. Through all this, teachers in SST, together with the students, are well-positioned to take the transformative leap into the future.

SST leverages one-to-one network computing and Interactive Digital Media (IDM) tools to create pervasive learning environments to support the development of 21st century competencies such as Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication. The three "C's" are among the ten key emphases embedded in the SST curriculum to nurture inventive and innovative students.

The visit will take participants through the three curriculum innovations whereby SST partners researchers from the National Institute of Education (NIE) to conduct translational research on pedagogical innovations. more ...
